Patchouli is a bushy herb native to the tropical regions of Asia. It hails from the mint family and has small pink-white flowers. Instantly recognisable as the ‘hippy oil’, its earthy, musky and herbaceous base tones give way to sweet and spicy top notes. Unlike many essential oils, patchouli oil matures with age. It helps to provide calm and relaxation, and is known to increase the production of oestrogen and testosterone. Patchouli has been used as an aphrodisiac in traditional remedies.
